Zambia Attracts US$58 Million Investment in Digital Infrastructure
Minister of Technology and Science Minister has disclosed that Zambia has attracted US$58 million investment in digital Infrastructure following the removal of tax on importation of digital infrastructure since 2021.
Speaking on a Ministerial Panel discussion at the 2024 Digital Government Africa Summit which has opened in Chongwe District this morning, Felix Mutati noted that since the removal of tax on importation of digital equipment, the country has attracted a lot of investment by the private sector.
Mr. Mutati stated that the investment has helped the country connect itself to all its eight neighbors through fibre optic technology.
He added that tax on digital equipment was scaring investors and forcing them to hold their investment, but that government realized that for investment to enter the country, there was need for tax incentives.
Mr. Mutati further said government is promoting incentives, innovation and investment in order to promote more private sector involvement in the economy.
Others on the panel included Burundian Minister of Communications, ICT and Technology Leocadie Ndacayisaba, Somalia Minister of Communications and Technology Mohammed Ali, South African Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Mondli Gungubele and the Executive Governor of Zamfara State in Nigeria Dauda Lawal.
