Safe Sport Commission Investigating Allegations of Sexual Abuse and Harassment within Zambia Basketball Federation

The Safe Sport Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has disclosed that it has developed a general code of conduct for the NOCZ along with specific codes of conduct for coaches and athletes.

In a statement, NOCZ SafeSport Commission chairperson Gloria Mubita says this is aimed at promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for coaches and athletes.

Mubita says in light of recent serious allegations of sexual abuse and harassment within the Zambia Basketball Federation, the commission is prioritizing a swift and thorough investigation.

Mubita adds that the safety, integrity, and well-being of every player, coach, and stakeholder in the sports community remain paramount; hence, the commission is resolute in upholding standards.

She states that the commission is committed to uncovering the truth, holding those responsible accountable, and will provide an update at an appropriate time.

Mubita has also revealed that the Commission is aware of additional allegations of sexual abuse and harassment in other federations that have not yet been formally reported to us.
