OMCAZ attributes Copperbelt fuel shortage to importation challenges

Oil Marketing Companies Association of Zambia (OMCAZ) has attributed the current fuel shortage being experienced in some parts of the Copperbelt province to importation challenges.

According to media reports, fuel shortage has worsened in Kitwe and Chingola districts on the Copperbelt province, resulting in long queues at filling stations that still have the commodity in stock.

And speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Association President Dr. Kafula Mubanga says the shortage could be attributed to the transportation model of using the road which has a lot of challenges in moving goods.

Dr. Mubanga notes that the entry points of the commodity in the region have been difficult in the recent past.

He is also of the view that the erratic fuel supply in some parts of the country could be due to the pricing issue.

When contacted for a comment, Energy Regulation Board (ERB) says it will provide an update on the issue in the next 48 hours.

Recently, the Board assured that the country Currently holds sufficient stocks of both diesel and petrol to meet national demand.
