MSCAZ Urges Mining Firms to Run Their Own Local Content Procurement Plans
Mine Suppliers and Contractors Association of Zambia (MSCAZ) has called on mining companies in the country to run their own local content procurement plans.
Speaking in an interview with Money News, Association President Costa Mwaba says the mining firms should not wait for the law to be imposed on them in order to allow local participation.
Mr. Mwaba has also urged the mining companies not to put local suppliers and contractors in the same bracket with foreign but locally registered firms, stressing that foreign companies usually get a huge portion of procurement, thereby disadvantaging Zambians.
He has however applauded Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) for investing K2.2 billion in local procurement this year, as local suppliers and contractors have benefited by being given orders.
Mr. Mwaba also states that KCM is practicing an open-door policy by allowing local suppliers and contractors to market their products to them.
Konkola Copper Mine has invested K2.2 billion in local procurement this year, reinforcing its commitment to empowering Zambian businesses and stimulating economic growth.
