Device Mechanism to Monitor Utilization of Public Funds – AAAZ
Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia (AAAZ) has called on government to come up with a mechanism that will be used to effectively monitor the utilization of funds by public institutions.
Alliance Executive Director Luchembe Chilufya, tells Money FM News in an interview that government should ensure that such processes are transparent and publicize information to the public more often.
Mr. Chilufya is of the view that instead of publishing the Auditor General’s report on an annual basis, government should consider a quarterly or monthly review of public institutions’ expenditure for the citizens to be on the same page with what is currently happening.
He has bemoaned the continued financial irregularities in government institutions, noting that every time the Auditor General’s report is released, financial mismanagement takes centre stage.
Mr. Chilufya has therefore called for enhanced measures to tackle such challenges, stressing the need to put in place effective monitoring mechanisms.
The 2023 Auditor General’s Report has unearthed anomalies in the procurement of a non-functional E-census software from M-SAT private company, by Ministry of Education Headquarters, among other financial irregularities.
