Consortium of Youth Groups on the Copperbelt Says Calls For Immediate Jobs and Business Opportunities From KCM Are Unrealistic.
A Consortium of youth groups on the Copperbelt says calls for immediate jobs and business opportunities from Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) are unrealistic as Vedanta Resources needs time to settle.
Chililabombwe Graduate Club Chairperson Alinuwila Singoyi and Konkola Youths for Positive Change Chairperson, Evans Kapeso state that the claims by some stakeholders that Vedanta has failed to deliver on its commitments are unfounded because the investor officially took over operations at the mine a few weeks.
The youth leaders say it is therefore premature for some individuals to start claiming that the investor has already failed to manage KCM.
They have implored the public and all stakeholders to understand that the investor needs to put things in order before they can properly start executing as per the communities’ expectations.
And Chingola District Youth Development Coordinating Committee Chairperson, John Bwembya is confident that the most unskilled of young people will soon be able to get a chance to work at KCM or conduct business with the mine.
