Action-Aid Zambia Not Okay with Government’s Decision to Maintain The Current Structure for Water Tariffs
Action-Aid Zambia says it does not support government’s decision to maintain the current structure for water tariffs.
Speaking in an interview with Money News, Association Country Director Faides TembaTemba says government should have reduced water tariffs, in view of the rising poverty levels in Zambia
Ms. TembaTemba has since bemoaned the inconsistency in adjustment of electricity tariffs, as this makes it difficult for people to plan.
She adds that unemployment levels in the country are still high with the significant portion of the employed failing to meet their basic needs.
Ms. TembaTemba also states that it is inhumane for government to be changing electricity tariffs every year and mostly upwards coupled with monthly fuel pump price adjustments.
ZESCO has maintained the current tariff structure for water pumping stations to support the provision of clean water and sanitation services during the current crisis period.
