Mambwe Council Receives K2.4 Million Under September Cash for Work
Mambwe Town Council says it has received K2.4 million under the Cash For Work initiative for September, 2024.
Council Public Relations Officer, Grace Lungu said the money will be used to clear unpaid beneficiaries from the first phase who were not covered by the August funding.
Ms. Lungu revealed that in August 2024, the Council received K652,000 out of which K150,000 was allocated towards administrative costs, while the remaining balance was paid to some beneficiaries whose work was completed and certified from the total 835 beneficiaries who were recruited.
“Additionally, some beneficiaries have already started working on the second phase, and the council is preparing to pay them from the received funds,” Ms. Lungu stated.
She said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has instructed Councils to recruit workers based on the available resources to avoid financial shortfalls.
“Mambwe Town Council urges Ward Development Committee officials not to allow work to begin without the council’s approval to prevent any delays in payment.”
“The Council appreciates the patience of beneficiaries awaiting payment and assures them that whenever funds are received outstanding payments will be made promptly,” she added.
Government is implementing the Cash for Work (CFW) programme in response to the drought experienced in the 2023/2024 farming season.
The programme targets vulnerable households in selected 123 constituencies in 87 identified districts not covered by the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) and Expanded Social Cash Transfer (ECT) programmes.
The CFW is an economic stimulus package as part of the Government intervention to provide temporal financial relief through wages for public works to be undertaken at community levels under this programme.
