Neelkanth Director, Operations Manager Nabbed for Allaged Theft of Over 4 Tonnes of ZESCO Cables
Zambia Police Service in collaboration with ZESCO Limited has formally arrested Neelkanth Director and company’s Operations Manager, for alleged theft of over 4 tonnes of cables.
In a statement, ZESCO Spokesperson Matongo Maumbi revealed that Mr. Anand Wadhwan and his Operations Manager, Raphael Mundeya, are facing multiple charges including possession of stolen goods and dealing in scrap metal without proper licensing.
“In a significant development, ZESCO Limited working with Zambia Police, announces the arrest and formal charging of Mr. Anand Wadhwan, Director of Neelkanth, along with the company’s Operations Manager, Mr. Raphael Mundeya.”
“The charges stem from a major operation that uncovered over 4 tonnes of cables believed to be stolen property from ZESCO,” Mr. Maumbi stated.
He said the duo is set to appear in the Ndola Magistrate Court on 15th October 2024 at 09:00 hours for plea.
Meanwhile, Mr. Maumbi disclosed that the country’s utility firm has recovered property valued at K397,569.28, following several operations conducted during the past week, targeting vandalism, theft, Fraudulent Access Point, fraud, corruption, and abuse of motor vehicles.
“The corporation successfully recorded 15 arrests and secured 3 convictions,” he said.
He added that the Corporation reported 52 cases, leading to a loss of property valued at K1,353,876, compared to 37 cases and property losses of K532,179.91 recorded in in the previous week.
“Vandalism was the major contributor, with 39 cases, a 30% increase from the 30 cases reported in the previous week. Additionally, there were 5 cases of attempted vandalism, and 8 cases related to other crimes,” Mr. Maumbi noted.
He further revealed that on 3rd October 2024, the Subordinate Court of the First Class for Lusaka District, convicted and sentenced three people from John Laing Compound, to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment with hard labour, for theft.
“The Subordinate Court of the First Class for the Lusaka District, presided over by Honorable Sakala, secured convictions against Isaac Banda, Grafton Muchimba, and Moses Siame, all from John Laing Compound in Lusaka Province,” Mr. Maumbi revealed.
