ANDD Hails Vedanta’s US$200,000 Sponsorship Towards Zambia Mining Insaka
Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has hailed Vedanta Resources through Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc for supporting the just ended 2024 Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka, with a sponsorship of US$200, 000 towards the successful hosting of the event.
Organization Executive Director, Samuel Banda told Money FM News that this significant investment played a vital role in ensuring the success of the Mining Insaka, which was held in Lusaka from 7th to 11th October, 2024.
Mr. Banda noted that the sponsorship clearly demonstrates Vedanta’s strong commitment to promoting growth and development in the mining sector, which is crucial for achieving Zambia’s national target of increasing copper production to 3 million metric tonnes per annum by 2031.
“We are pleased to report that we monitored the recently held 2024 Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka, which was a notable success. We commend the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development for organizing this successful event, which brought together key stakeholders in the mining industry to exchange valuable insights.”
“We would also like to recognize Konkola Copper Mine (KCM), under the management of Vedanta Resources, for being the major sponsor of the 2024 Mining Indaba,” Mr. Banda said.
He noted that the Mining Insaka, which brought together key stakeholders in the mining industry to exchange valuable insights, presented a progressive strategy to advance mining development and economic growth in the country.
“We believe that platforms like the Mining Indaba facilitate the exchange of sound ideas that can lead to economic solutions addressing current challenges. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for sustainable development in our country, aiming to promote economic growth and improve the living standards of Zambians,” he added.
“Given the ongoing energy crisis, particularly prolonged load shedding, which has adversely affected our domestic economy, especially small business, we strongly urge the government to organize an economic Indaba,” he added.
He said the economic Indaba is essential for addressing pressing economic challenges, particularly the energy crisis and the rising cost of living.
“We believe that collaborative efforts are crucial for finding effective solutions to these issues,” Mr. Banda stated.
The Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka was held under the theme: Mining Beyond Copper-Celebrating 100 years of Mining in Zambia.”
The event brought together local and international mining experts, policymakers, investors, and stakeholders to explore opportunities, address challenges, and promote sustainable development in Zambia’s mining sector.
