PIA Emphasizes Need For Skilled Profeessionals In Issurance Field

Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) has called for skilled and innovative professionals in the insurance field as the sector continues to evolve at a rapid pace.

Speaking during the first ever Insurance Industry Career Fair in Chongwe, as part of commemorations of the 2024 Insurance Week, Authority Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Namakau Ntini, said as the regulatory, PIA has identified skills development as one of the drivers that will influence the growth of the insurance sector in Zambia.

Mrs. Ntini noted that the need for skilled and innovative professionals in the insurance sector has become more critical in the face of technological advancements, changing consumer behaviors as well as financial needs and global economic shifts.

She encouraged Pupils and students to view the insurance industry not just as a job opportunity but as a fulfilling career path because the sector offers a diverse range or roles that include underwriters, risk managers, legal practitioners and Actuaries.

Mrs. Ntini also advised captains of industry to mentor and guide the next generation of insurers as they navigate the professions world.

“It is also our expectation that insurers and brokers will open doors for internship to give students an opportunity to get hands on experience in the industry,” Mrs. Ntini stated.

She explained that the Insurance Industry Career Fair is aimed at promoting Insurance awareness and Education, as well as connect talented pupils and students with insurance companies and brokers in order to showcase the diverse career paths and professional development opportunities that include underwriting, actuarial, sales, and legal, among others.

And Insurers Association of Zambia (IAZ) President Irene Muyenga underscored the important role that financial education plays in making better financial decisions.

Ms. Muyenga is confident that the Fair will equip students and pupils with knowledge on how to manage financial risks through insurance.

“To the students and pupils, I urge you to make full use of the experts gathered here today. Learn from the experience of those who have gone ahead of you in the journey of life,” she said.

And the students have thanked PIA for giving them an opportunity to interact and learn from experienced industry players.

The 2024 Insurance Week which runs from 23rd to 28th September, 2024 is being commemorated under the theme: “Insurance a solution in Uncertain Times.
